Kiva Ladder -Luddy
Hi Luddy,
You asked me to post a picture of the Kiva Ladder that I made, for some reason I'm having difficulty doing so. I will keep trying!
Perhaps more information will help. You will need two 8 foot branches, (You can make your ladder any sise you wish.)and four 4 foot branches
which will serve as the steps for your ladder. I used birch as I stated, but
you can use branches you have available, it really depends on what you
plan to do with the Kiva.
I layed my two 8 foot branches on the ground and placed the 4 foot branches right on top, they overlap the two 8 foot poles, the distance between steps is completely your call, so is the height of your ladder.
I drilled pilot holes connecting the 8 ft branch too the 4 ft steps, then secured them with 3 in wood screws on both sides. Do this down the length of your ladder, then go back and tie a piece of leather strapping on both sides of your steps which will be connected to the step and the 8 foot branch.
You can paint the Kiva, or leave it natural. Birch is such a pretty white wood, I don't like to paint it. It really is fun and easy. Hope this helps!
