Hanging Lamp ideas anyone?

Postby MNGirl on Wed Oct 03, 2007 9:46 am

My boyfriend found this cool hanging lamp at a garage sale and thought I could spiff it up and give it some life.

The lamp shade is made out of wicker, so I could obviously spray paint it. Just wondering if there are any other more exciting ideas for sprucing this lamp up??

:D I LOVE this shade. The possibilities are endless. My first impression of it was to paint it and then using a utility knife, cut out different shapes. (Ex. Possibly some retro flowers.) Attach a piece of translucent fabric or a vellum paper on the inside of the shade to soften the design up. Add a low watt bulb and admire. :)

One more thought and I think I like this one a bit more. Paint the shade the base color of choice. Next, take and draw a floral motif or some other design on the shade using chalk. Step #3 Following the pattern you just drew use different colors of fibers such as yarn, ribbon, or embroidery floss to fill in the pattern you created. Just weave the fibers up and through the openings in the shade. This process may be a bit more timely but the effect would be oh so grande!! :)
