I've been collecting specialty fabrics for a very long time. Last year somehow I ran out of time and had so many gifts to wrap for my children, i.e., underwear, socks, t-shirts, and other essentials.(They're both adults now, so they get what they need for Christmas.) I pulled out some of my Christmas fabric, cut out enough fabric for a few large trash bag sized gift bags and got busy.
I turned the fabric rights sides together, sewed two straight seams, one on each side, folded the fabric under at the top and stitched it down so I could
run ribbon through it, and make the top look nice and finished. Then I pressed it, loaded it with gifts, and tied the bow. I used pretty Christmas fabric for my daughter, and plaids for my son and husband. I made gift tags using felt that I adhered to white card stock, you can really have fun with this. They looked beautiful under the tree, the kids loved them, and I had so much fun!
I've also done this for special gifts by embossing velvet with rubber stamps, sewing the sides as I mentioned above. I've also used lace over
cotton, felt, anything works, including paper. I took plain brown paper
and seamed the sides and then decorated it with stickers and rubber stamps for the little ones. The possibilities are endless, and so much fun to create. This idea is also nice when you have a themed Christmas tree.
The bags go home with the kids, no mess, nothing to put into the recycling
bin. Well, that part might not be a highlight for some:) Try it, create a new Christmas tradition. This is great for an occasion.
