Intro-question?

Postby Chelle_E on Tue Oct 14, 2008 5:40 pm

Hello all! I am new here so just let me give y'all an intro. My name is Michelle, but I go by Chelle. I am a big crafter anything that I can get my hands on makes me happy! I don't post much I am a lurker like to read ideas and every now and then post my own.

So here goes.......Does anyone know how to age glass. I bought an old window and had to replace one of the panes. Anyway it looks newer than the rest of the panes and was wondering if anyone knows how to make the glass look old?

Aging Glass

Postby CreativeIM on Mon Oct 20, 2008 1:10 pm

Hello there,

First of all I would start out by practicing on a spare piece of glass to ensure your results.

You could try by taking a Scotch Guard pad and scratching the edges everso slightly or try some steel wool. Be sure to use a lower grade like double zero. Then you may want to add some color to it to match your other windows, such as colored wood stain. The stain will get down in the cracks eluding an aged look. Depending on the degree of aging you desire, just mess around with different materials until you find the right look. Mix up some white paint with some water and rub that on in some places to give an oxidized look and seal the final window with some sort of very matted down sealer/varnish. Hope this helps!
