"I have two creative challenges for you!

As a mom of a toddler, I have accumulated dozens of book dust covers for all of her lovely picture books. They're so beautiful that I hate to throw them out but I have no idea what to do with them. I was going to spray mount them on some sort of board and hang them like pictures at her school but that's not very creative!

The other challenge is the accumulation of all of those little wooden crates that fruit (Clementines particularly) come in. I am making one into a doll bed but there must be other ways to use them.

Thank you!"

Clementine Boxes

Postby lat.ce on Wed Sep 26, 2007 10:28 am

My first thought for the clementine boxes was to sew some elastic in some fabric and insert it in the box and then you could also embelish the crate and fabric with some sort of flower, or bow on the front and use it for crafting supplies or all the small kids stuff that is collected. Then I also started thinking about my teenager and how much make-up, hair, nail stuff and thought that those crates stack nicely. You could paint it/or not (stain) and use pretty coordinating fabric that would look nice in the bedroom, bathroom, craft room. Have fun!

Dust Covers

Postby lat.ce on Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:24 am

I am thinking that dust covers are just the cover that comes on any given book right? Well, if they are and you collect them, here is my idea: I would make some sort of altered book out of them. Lets say you take the covers and purchase coordinating papers and embelishments and you create one book out of the covers. You could add comments about the books themselves and it seems like that would be a great treasure to give to a child when they are older. I think you could really make some adorable scrapbook style pages out of the covers. You could cut the images out, cut the title out, add stickers, papers, brads I mean you name it!

Mary--
I think it would be neat to use those fruit crates as gift boxes. You can have lots of fun embellishing the outside. I think its cool to get gift boxes that are themed according to the gift. Have fun with them!

A few years ago I took a wooden crate and created a fall arrangement out of it. First I stained my crate. Next I took and cut floral foam to fit the inside. I then added sunflowers, cattails, and other fall foilage to it. I added moss in between the slats using hot glue and underneath the foilage to cover the foam. I topped it off with a bow made from burlap and a beautiful rooster that stood perched on top. You can also add a small pumpkin or gourds to vary the height. I placed it on my porch during fall and received so many compliments. Good Luck.

We sent Mary a bunch of ideas, but haven't received any photos of her finished projects. We'll be sure to post them if we hear back from her!

I have ideas for both

Postby auntwrenny on Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:41 pm

#1 - use the dust covers of her books as the background paper for a scrapbook. I recently did this for my 20-year-old son and he was really tickled to remember all the books.

#2 - the crates make great wall shelves for knick-knacks. All you need to do is put them against the wall, level them up, and put a screw through the back. You can group them on the wall as well for creative wall decor.

Book Covers and Clementine Crates!

Postby halfpint on Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:30 pm

Hi, :D

Why not use the book covers to cover the crates? You could make some really awesome crates for storgage in your daughter's room. Decoupage
the covers to the wooden crates. You can also cut out images from the
book covers and create collage pages for altered books, scrapbooking, etc. If you would rather not cut up the book jackets, color copy them.

Good luck!
